Arrive at Kigali International Airport where you will be met by your guide and begin a scenic drive to Nyungwe National Park via Butare.

Along the way:

• King’s Palace, Nyanza: Explore Rwanda’s royal heritage with a guided tour of the traditional palace.
• Butare National Museum: Learn about Rwanda’s cultural and historical heritage through exhibits of ethnography, archaeology, and traditional crafts.

Lunch is served at the Ibis Hotel in Butare, after which you continue the drive to Nyungwe National Park. Check in at One & Only Nyungwe House (Full Board – Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast). Spend the evening relaxing in the lodge’s serene forest setting and enjoying amenities such as nature walks or birdwatching.

After early breakfast, transfer to the park office for a briefing before your chimpanzee trekking experience. Hike through the lush rainforest in search of chimpanzees, guided by expert trackers. Observe their social behaviors, including feeding, grooming, and interactions within their troops.

Return to the lodge for lunch, then experience the Nyungwe Canopy Walk in the afternoon. This 160-meter-long bridge, suspended 70 meters above the forest floor, offers breathtaking views of the rainforest and excellent opportunities to spot birds and wildlife from above.

Dinner and overnight at One & Only Nyungwe House (Full Board).

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge, then take a morning trek to spot elusive Colobus monkeys and other wildlife within the forest. Learn about their social behaviors and the forest ecosystem.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch, then embark on a scenic 4-hour drive to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi, Rwanda’s tranquil freshwater lake surrounded by volcanic mountains.

Check in at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel (Full Board – Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast). Spend the afternoon at leisure, relaxing by the lake, strolling along the shore, or enjoying lodge amenities. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning at Lake Kivu before transferring to Kinigi, the gateway town to Volcanoes National Park. Along the route, stop at viewpoints for photography of the Virunga Volcanoes and scenic landscapes.

Check in at One & Only Gorilla’s Nest (Full Board – Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast), a luxury lodge nestled near the park. Spend the afternoon enjoying the lodge’s amenities, resting, and preparing for the gorilla trek the next day. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Wake up early for breakfast, then transfer to the park headquarters by 6:00 AM for registration and a briefing.

Begin your gorilla trekking adventure, hiking through the rainforest with experienced trackers. The trek may last 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once located, spend one hour observing the gorillas, taking photographs, and learning about their behaviors in the wild.

After the trek, return to One & Only Gorilla’s Nest for lunch, then embark on a scenic drive back to Kigali (approx. 3–4 hours). Check in at Kigali Serena Hotel (Bed & Breakfast) for your final overnight stay. Dinner is not included, giving you the opportunity to explore Kigali’s restaurants or relax at the hotel.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward international flight. Depart with cherished memories of Rwanda’s incredible wildlife, including close encounters with gorillas, chimpanzees, and colobus monkeys, along with stunning landscapes and cultural insights.
